Pandemic Bulletin: Year 2020, Week 51

Throngs of marauding furloughed workers continue to decimate freelance markets in highly desirable corners of industry. Netflix soars high. The menace of the CCP persists, its aggressive posturing relentless, attempting to occupy place of World Leader while other powers have plates full maintaining functioning economies & social order. US twists in wind as Donald Trump drags out long & deranged term, deaths & infections soaring to record highs as he makes final reptilian manoeuvres prior to handing country over to Joe Biden in maximum calamity. Economies continue to appear, often & in large swathes, dead in the water. Shop shutters up, opening hours down, public spaces empty. Capitalism acting like enormous machinery with pernicious stick wedged in gears, somehow unable to get fully unstuck & moving. Starts to wind up & as gains momentum, inevitably grinds to halt. It is clear democratic systems will survive in post-pandemic world; The question is whether effective political power, to defend and set The political example, will. With curfews & mandatory mask wearing fact of daily life for millions, it’s enough to wonder if there isn’t some dark scheme at work to turn world into prison. Rules applied in pandemic have shown this is possible. World as a prison, with little pockets left for Rebel Forces to hide in. Thoughts like these pop up, and some may merit slightly longer consideration if it wasn’t for COVID-19 Deniers flooding channel with nonsense. It remains Hunker Down Time for much of world, through festive season. Strange Christmas for poor souls. New variant of virus has broken loose in London: mutation 70% more contagious than before. Countries are lining up to ban travel to/from UK. Chaos that could be wrought by such mutants has come into view over last hours. If able to evade effects of vaccines in production, all more so. Countries around world are locked in a deadly dance of economics & life/death, and hope to stay on feet until music stops playing Sometime Next Year. Signing off from Week 51 of this foul year of Our Lord, 2020.
